A yellow cab caught fire and exploded Thursday near Times Square — causing a stir among passersby and office workers — but no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The cab was parked at the corner of 53rd Street and 7th Avenue at 9:30 a.m. when smoke was seen rising from the vehicle — shortly after it caught fire.
The driver was able to escape the blaze. Seconds after the fire ignited it apparently spread to the gas tank causing the vehicle to explode, WCBS-TV reports.
Officer workers tell WCBS-TV that they heard the loud explosion and it sent them out of their seats and over to the windows to get a closer look.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames almost immediately and no one was injured.
